Virslīga player statistics after 25% of the season

It is the 3rd of May today and Virslīga Matchday 9 was played just a few days ago, so it means that all the teams have played against each other (it’s technically not true, because Liepāja and Metta have not played against each other, because the game between them was postponed). Now we can look at the statistics. This time I will share the best of the best from the first nine matchdays. Not a lot to tell, just some screenshots and at the end of this blog I will leave the link where you can get all the statistics I have gathered.
TOP GOAL SCORERS SO FAR
Riga FC Marko Regža just passed Valmiera FC Djibril Gueye for the leading scorer. Unfortunately, Djibril will not be able to get more goals this season as he suffered a season-ending surgery. But look at Marko. Riga has been looking for a goalscoring forward for years… and in the end, they found their scorer… who last season played for last place Super Nova side. Talk about a fairytale story.
TOP GOALSCORERS U21
FK Tukums 2000/Telms Lithuanian talent Faustas Steponavicius who is loaned out from RFS is the leader in this category with three goals. In total 23 U-21 players have scored at least one goal this season so far. It’s great to see a lot of Latvian players on the list.
MOST ASSISTS SO FAR THIS SEASON
It’s Mankenda world and we are living in it. What a player he is. As he already has six assists to his name. Two games with 3 assists in one game. Don’t know if that has happened before in Virslīga.
U21 MOST ASSISTS SO FAR THIS SEASON
FS Jelgava 2003 born Ralfs Maslovs is the only one on this list who has more than 1 assist to his name this season. One of the surprises of the season. In terms of contributing.
MOST SHOT ATTEMPTS THIS SEASON
Riga FC Duglas Aurelio is the leader, by a big margin. He started the season with a bang as he attempted 10 shots against Jelgava in the first game of the season.
MOST SHOT ATTEMPTS BY U21 THIS SEASON
The top U21 goalscorer also has the most shots as Faustas Steponavicius leaves behind him two FK Metta young talents - Forward Bruno Melnis and Lūkass Vapne.

FOULS DRAWN LEADERS
This is where I wanted to acknowledge RFS midfielder Adam Markhiyev, the eye test doesn’t deceive me as he is one of the top players in the league to me and he has drawn a lot of attention to himself and his ability to draw fouls shows here. He has 37 fouls drawn, while his closes competitor has 13 fewer. That’s impressive.
MOST FOULS DRAWN BY U21 THIS SEASON
Oh yeah, and he also leads by a very very big margin in the same category for the U21 players.
FOULS DRAWN PER GAME THIS SEASON (MINIMUM 270 MINUTES)
MOST PASSES COMPLETED THIS SEASON
Riga FC Hrvoje Babec leads the league, with FK Auda defensive pillar Vjačeslavs Isajevs close to him.
MOST PASSES COMPLETED BY U21 PLAYER
Adam Markhiyev leads the U21 category, but it’s nice to see 2004 year born Dāvis Vējkrīgers right next to him. He is having a wonderful season for FS Jelgava. He has not missed a single minute so far this season all 9 games he played the full 90 minutes.

BEST PASSING % SO FAR THIS SEASON (MINIMUM 270 MINUTES PLAYED)
Riga FC, RFS FK and FK Auda players are dominating this list.
U21 BEST PASSING % THIS SEASON (MINIMUM 270 MINUTES PLAYED)
MOST KEY PASSES MADE THIS SEASON
Jānis Ikaunieks has struggled to start the season, in terms of contributing as he scored his first goal in just the seventh game of the season against Daugavpils, but he has dished out a lot of key passes. His teammate Emerson is a close second.
MOST KEY PASSES BY U21 PLAYER SO FAR THIS SEASON
Lūkass Vapne is one of the most creative young players in the league and he leads by a big margin in this category. If we count all the players he is sitting 3rd behind both RFS players in the Key passes leaderboard.
MOST CHANCES CREATED THIS SEASON
Ousseynou Niang has played the least minutes from the list (he was suspended for two games), but it’s not a surprise to see him at the top of the list. He is an exciting player to watch.
MOST CHANCES CREATED BY U21 PLAYER
MOST CROSSES THIS SEASON
Just like last year, RFS defender Petr Mares is the absolute leader in this category. He had 15 crosses in the last game against FK Metta.
MOST CROSSES BY U21 PLAYER
If one Czech is leading the entire league in crosses made, then the other Czech is leading the same category, just for U-21 Players. BFC Daugavpils Jaroslav Harustak so far this season has 27 crosses, which is enough to put him in the first place.
MOST DUELS WON THIS SEASON
Adam Markhiyev is also the leader here, most drawn fouls and has won the most duels. I think his stock is rising like crazy.
MOST DUELS WON THIS SEASON BY U21 PLAYER
Adam Markhiyev is the leader here also, but the next three players are 2004 born - the iron man Dāvis Vējkrīgers and Daugavpils centre-back duo Rinalds Aizups and Moses Salifu Zuure.
That’s just a sneak peek into the statistics department. If you like to compare and look at them by yourself, you can do it. I will leave the links right here for you to check it out. Thank you for reading and let’s continue to watch the beautiful Latvian football.
